Non-league football: Conor Sellars delighted with form for Worksop Town

Rising talent Conor Sellars is delighted to be playing his part as Worksop Town surged to the top of the NCEL Premier Division following a fifth straight success.

The former Middlesbrough academy man has come for the fore this season with four goals and an incredible 15 assists in eight games for Mark Shaw’s side, who toppled Cleethorpes on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old played for Harrogate Town last season following spells in Portugal and Iceland after leaving the Riverside Stadium and it is his form for Worksop that is catching the eye of clubs higher up the league pyramid.

I’m enjoying my football again after a tough couple of years since leaving Middlesbrough and I thank the manager for giving me the chance to play here.

Sellars is thankful to Shaw for giving him the chance to showcase his talent and he is concentrating on performing his best for the club and not on the league clubs monitoring his services.

Strong start

“I’ve managed to chip in with quite a few assists and four goals so far, including a couple of long free-kicks which I've been working hard on in training,” he told Sky Sports.

“I’m enjoying my football again after a tough couple of years since leaving Middlesbrough and I thank the manager for giving me the chance to play here.

“Our style of play really suits me as we are an attacking team who like to get the ball down and play. We've started the season strongly, so hopefully I can continue to help the team have a successful year.

“Of course I've always wanted to get back into full-time football and am confident in my ability, but at the moment I'm just concentrating on doing well for Worksop.”
