Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko could be sidelined for up to three weeks with a calf injury.
The 28-year-old limped off the pitch four minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute in City's 2-2 draw at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
He has already been ruled out of Bosnia-Herzegovina’s European Qualifier away to Israel on Sunday as a result and appears unlikely to be available for City’s next Premier League game at home to Swansea on November 22.
A three-week lay-off would also keep him out of the Champions League home game against Bayern Munich on November 25 and the Premier League trip to Southampton on November 30.
Bosnia-Herzegovina team doctor Reuf Karabeg said: "It's a very serious injury and requires the kind of treatment whose time-frame unfortunately rules out a quick return."
Dzeko said: "I am extremely disappointed with the news that I will miss this (Israel) match but I have faith in my team-mates and believe that they have it in them to get a result."
Dzeko's absence is a blow to injury-hit Bosnia-Herzegovina's hopes of getting their Group B campaign on track after taking only two points from the opening three games.
Coach Safet Susic said: "If Dzeko can't play we will be resigned to playing for a draw against Israel because we have no hope of winning without him."
Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany will miss Belgium's game against Iceland on Wednesday night.
The Manchester City captain sat out Saturday’s trip to Loftus Road and is still struggling with a calf injury.
