Burnley’s amazing home record is the third best in the Premier League

Sean Dyche has led Burnley to the Premier League for a second time

The stats show Turf Moor is one of the most difficult places to go in the Premier League.

Burnley boast one of the best home records in the Premier League and are currently on a five-match winning streak in the competition in front of their own fans.

Include their two FA Cup wins at Turf Moor and it is seven victories on the bounce for Sean Dyche's men on home soil.

Only Chelsea and Tottenham have a better home record this season with Burnley having picked up more points than Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Best Premier League home records in 2016/17

Team Played Won Drawn Lost Points
Chelsea 12 11 0 1 33
Tottenham 12 10 2 0 32
Burnley 13 9 1 3 28
Arsenal 12 8 2 2 26
Everton 12 7 4 1 25
Man City 12 7 4 1 25
Liverpool 11 7 3 1 24

It is a remarkable achievement for a team that was only promoted to the top flight last season.

Indeed, they have already picked up more points at home than any of last season's promoted teams managed to do in the entire campaign.

Highlights of Burnley's 1-0 win over Leicester last time out at Turf Moor

What's so striking about Burnley's record is the contrast with their away form. Dyche's team have won only one point on the travels thanks to a goalless draw at Old Trafford.

Curiously, Burnley actually had the best away record in the Championship last season and only the third best home record in the division.

Burnley's seven on the spin

  • 1. Bournemouth -- Won 3-2
  • 2. Middlesbrough -- Won 1-0
  • 3. Sunderland -- Won 4-1
  • 4. Southampton -- Won 1-0
  • 5. Sunderland -- Won 2-0
  • 6. Bristol City -- Won 2-0
  • 7. Leicester City -- Won 1-0
  • 8. Chelsea -- FEB 12 ON SKY

So what is the reason for their brilliant home form? Speaking as early as October, Dyche recognised the need for the supporters to play their part.

"They've stayed behind us and that's an important factor, particularly through a Premier League season, we're going to need them," said the Burnley boss.

Burnley have won 28 of their 29 points this season at home (96.5%), the highest proportion in the English League.

Burnley also hold the Premier League record for percentage of points won at home in a season – they won 26 out of 30 at home (87%) in 09/10.

"Over the last three-and-a-half years of my time here it's been a difficult place for teams to come to anyway. We want that, we need that."

They will certainly need it when they host Premier League leaders Chelsea on Sunday, particularly given that Antonio Conte has no excuse for underestimating his opponents.

For with Chelsea having travelled to Tottenham already, their only loss in 18 Premier League matches, the Turf Moor trip is - incredibly - their toughest remaining fixture on paper.
