WATCH: Sky Sports Vault - Manchester United 3-3 Southampton 1999
Thursday 18 August 2016 21:33, UK
An embarrassing error from Manchester United goalkeeper Massimo Taibi cost Sir Alex Ferguson’s side as they were held to a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford by Southampton.
United were leading 2-1 following goals from Teddy Sheringham and Dwight Yorke when the Italian goalkeeper let Sky Sports' own Matt Le Tissier's weak shot dribble under his body.
Yorke made it 3-2 later in the game, but half-time substitute Le Tissier levelled for 3-3 as the champions and treble winners stumbled at home.
It didn't matter much come the end of the campaign, as United wrapped up the title back at the Dell in April, winning the league by 18 points. Southampton finished 15th, 11 points clear of the drop.
Jose Mourinho's Manchester United side made a winning start to the current campaign, beating Bournemouth 3-1 on Super Sunday, while Claude Puel's new Saints side drew 1-1 at home to Watford on Saturday.
United host Southampton on the first Friday Night Football of the season at Old Trafford, with coverage starting at 6.30pm on Sky Sports 1 with Jeff Stelling and Rachel Riley.
