Rovers boss was keen to close the gap on relegation rivals

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean was disappointed his charges failed to capitalise on results elsewhere after losing to Stoke. Rovers came into the game on the back of an improbable win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Success against the Potters would have seen Blackburn leapfrog QPR in the Premier League table and out of the bottom three. Wolves were defeated on home soil by Chelsea and Kean knew it was an opportunity for Rovers to ease their relegation worries. Peter Crouch's first-half double was enough to claim all three points with David Goodwillie reducing the deficit after the interval. Kean was happy enough with his side's display, stating he felt they should have at least secured a draw after pulling one back.

Opportunity

"I felt the commitment was there," said Kean. "I felt the second goal was a bit of a killer because we were pushing for the equaliser. We didn't deal with the counter attack. The ball has come in too easily. "Peter Crouch, if he can get that type of service, then it's going to be tough. Having said that, we tried to get the line higher in the second half and pressurise their full-backs. "As a result of that we dictated the second half, I expected when we got the first to get another and maybe even nick it at the end. "We're disappointed with the goal that's been disallowed from Chris (Samba). The ref has said he's given it against Yakubu which was surprising because I've seen it again and he's stood there minding his own business. I thought it was a perfectly good goal. "To get that wrong and then you've got Chris hitting the bar as well, we feel as though it's a missed opportunity today. We could have found ourselves out of the bottom three with a positive result. "If we can keep performing we can soon find ourselves in a better position. I'm disappointed we've not at least got a draw."
Business
There has been speculation Kean may need to sell his prized assets in January, but he is hoping to strengthen - not weaken his options in the New Year. "I've been told nothing about selling. I'm trying to add," Kean continued. "I said at Old Trafford I'd like to keep the squad intact and add to it. That's going to be the way in which we're going to approach this window."
