Latics left-back has fingers crossed he impressed boss Martinez

Defender Jordan Mustoe is hoping his fine display in Wigan's 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Swindon on Saturday will lead to further first team opportunities this season. The 20-year-old - the only positive for Latics fans during a dire afternoon in which Paulo Di Canio's League Two side pulled off the shock of the FA Cup third round - was making his first-ever start in the professional ranks. Mustoe's inexperience showed little during an impressive performance and the left-back has certainly given Wigan boss Roberto Martinez a selection dilemma ahead of Manchester City's visit to the DW Stadium on Monday. "I enjoyed it. I was made up to get my first start, although obviously I wasn't too happy with the result," said Mustoe. "I only found out a few hours before the game that I'd be starting. But I had a good idea that might be the case with the way training had gone, so I was prepared for it. "Hopefully I've done well enough to show the gaffer I'm worthy of being involved at this level." Wigan have lost their last four league games against table-toppers City and are 33 points worse off than Roberto Mancini's men in the Premier League table.
