Defender wants to celebrate achievement with a win over Swansea

Emmerson Boyce played himself into the record books at the weekend but admits the failure to beat Aston Villa took the shine of his celebrations. His 146th game for Wigan took him past Paul Scharner at the top of the club's all-time Premier League appearances table. A win would have lifted Roberto Martinez's battlers away from the bottom of the Premier League but they failed to edge a close encounter over their fellow strugglers.

Record breaker

But the record breaker is hoping he can celebrate properly next weekend with a win over Premier League new boys Swansea at the DW Stadium. "It was a big day for me," says Boyce. "It's a fantastic honour to break the record. "Obviously it would have been nice to have marked it with a win, but I got a fantastic ovation from the fans and I'd like to thank them for that. "If we'd won we'd have moved out of the bottom three, and it looks like being another one of those seasons where it goes all the way to the last game.
Ovation
"But as long as we can get our own house in order, that puts pressure on other teams and hopefully that will count. "Next week is a massive game for us, and three points will make this result seem that little bit better. "Swansea will come here full of confidence, given their league position, and they'll feel it's a game they can win as well. "But it's our home game, and we know we have to start winning our home games because they are running out."
