Finishing Goodison career without medal would be "failure"

Everton captain Phil Neville says calling time on his Goodison Park career without lifting a trophy would be a "failure". Neville, who won a host of domestic and European titles with first club Manchester United, has just one FA Cup runners-up medal to show from his seven years on Merseyside. Time is running out for the 35-year-old to add to his haul, but he has targeted FA Cup success this season as Everton prepare to face Sunderland in a quarter-final replay on Tuesday. The Toffees came unstuck against Chelsea in the 2009 final and have also missed chances in the Carling Cup and Europa League during Neville's spell.

Opportunities

"I didn't come into this game to get personal plaudits. I've come into this game to win trophies and medals," said Neville. "I look at the team that has developed under David Moyes - particularly since I've been at the club - and the opportunities we've had. "I just don't want to see these chances slipping by. "That's why I say that if I left without getting another medal to show for it, I would honestly think to myself that as captain of the team for the last seven years, I'd have failed."
