Garry Monk says Wilfried Bony is fully focused on Swansea City following a summer of speculation regarding his future.

The Ivorian striker, fresh from a debut campaign in England in which he broke through the 20-goal barrier, was said to be interesting clubs across Europe prior to Monday’s deadline.

He was, however, to see out the window at the Liberty Stadium and remains very much a part of Monk’s plans.

All strikers get frustrated when they are not scoring, but for me it is just about what you are contributing to the team.

Bony is said to have never pushed for a move away from South Wales, with the 25-year-old committed to the cause and determined to build on his efforts from last season.

Monk said in the South Wales Evening Post: “Wilf commits very well, he is focused on what we want to do.

“If he was coming in and wandering about disillusioned, we would have a problem.

“But he does not do that, he comes in, commits and is at one with the group. That is all I can ask for.”

Monk is also unfazed by Bony’s current lack of goals, with a man who netted 25 times in all competitions last term yet to open his account in 2014/15.

He added: “All strikers get frustrated when they are not scoring, but for me it is just about what you are contributing to the team.

“Wilf has not scored yet but his contribution in terms of hold-up play, winning the ball, bringing others into the game and fighting for the team can be bigger than a goal sometimes.

“A lot came through him against West Brom – he was strong and allowed us to get up the pitch.

“For me as a manager, that is more important than someone scoring a goal because that is something we have worked on all week and you see it happening.

“All I worry about is the team, I do not worry about individual targets.”
