Manchester United midfielder Anderson would be willing to consider a return to Gremio if an offer is put to him.

The Brazilian side helped to launch the 26-year-old’s career, paving the way for a move to Europe with Porto and a big-money switch to Old Trafford.

A return to his roots would now appeal to Anderson, with his English adventure having turned sour.

Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Serie A outfit Fiorentina, Anderson remains out of favour under Louis van Gaal at United.

It is expected that he will be allowed to find a new employer, and a homecoming is not being ruled out – with Gremio and Flamengo understood to be keen on a man capped on eight occasions by his country.

Anderson told Radio Bandeirantes: “There is always the possibility of returning to Gremio. It’s my home, I grew up at the club. I am a fan, everyone knows that.

“It’s possible, as it was in the past. I have been contacted by the club before.

“I want to be closer to my family, to my daughters. There has never been an offer, but I have known the club for a long time.

“I am not desperate to join Gremio, though, as I respect all Brazilian clubs.

“Gremio have a chance but it doesn’t depend on me, it depends on their board. I was close a year ago, before joining Fiorentina. I would accept a reduction in my wages.”
