Tottenham will take on an MLS All-Star team, comprising the best players from the American League, on July 29 in Denver.

It will be the 20th edition of the fixture which has seen the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and AS Roma compete.

Tottenham toured North America last year as part of their pre-season preparations and head coach Mauricio Pochettino believes the fixture will benefit his side.

‘Important’

"We'd like to thank Major League Soccer for the invitation to take part in the 2015 All-Star Game,” he said.

We enjoyed three tough matches last summer in North America and the quality of football in MLS continues to grow every year.

"The fact that this will be our only fixture outside of Europe during pre-season says a lot about how we view this game.

"We enjoyed three tough matches last summer in North America and the quality of football in MLS continues to grow every year.

More from Football

"Pre-season is an important time for us and we are looking forward to being a part of one of the biggest events on the US football calendar.

"We know the quality of the facilities will be top-class and we see this fixture against the best players from MLS as good preparation."

'Keane return'

Robbie Keane, who made 288 appearances for Spurs over two spells at White Hart Lane, scoring 122 goals, will line up against his former side in the match.

"To play against your former team and some former team-mates is certainly exciting," he told Sky Sports News HQ. "I know the whole MLS league is excited to have Tottenham come over and play against us.

"It is certainly a club that I am remembered for most really and I've certainly got great memories at Tottenham.

"You can now see on Sky Sports how the league has grown, certainly with the players coming over here like Kaka and Stevie Gerrard.

"The league will only continue to grow and I believe in the next five, six years it could be a massive, massive league."

‘World class’

MLS President and Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott added, “We are excited to welcome another world-class opponent in Tottenham and look forward to a competitive match and a tremendous week of events.

“The AT&T MLS All-Star Game continues to be one of the most entertaining and widely anticipated traditions for our League and for our sport in North America.

“We know that the Colorado Rapids, one of our inaugural clubs, will be great hosts and that Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will impress both the fans in the stadium and television viewers throughout the world.”
