Wayne Rooney came on as an 89th-minute substitute for Manchester United in their 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final win over West Ham on Wednesday.

The England captain played for the United senior team for the first time in two months having recovered from damaging knee ligaments during a defeat at Sunderland on February 13.

Rooney played an hour for the club's U21 side on Monday night and came off the bench for the closing stages of the FA Cup quarter-final replay at West Ham.

He has six remaining Premier League games to help United achieve a top-four finish, with them sitting in fifth, four points shy of Manchester City above them.
