Manchester United v Ajax in Europa League final to be refereed by Damir Skomina

Damir Skomina, an official Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho once labelled "weak and naive", will referee the Europa League final.

UEFA announced on Friday that the Slovenian will officiate the game between United and Ajax on May 24 in Stockholm's Friends Arena.

Skomina has been an international referee since 2003 and this season has officiated six matches in the Champions League - a competition in which the 40-year-old frustrated Mourinho in October 2015.

Following Chelsea's goalless draw at Dynamo Kiev in the group stage, and during one of his fallouts with the FA, the Portuguese described "week and naive" after ignoring penalty appeals from Cesc Fabregas.

United secured their place in the final with a 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo at Old Trafford on Thursday to claim a 2-1 aggregate victory.

Ajax survived a scare - losing the second leg of their semi-final 3-1 in Lyon - but advanced 5-4 on aggregate.

Felix Brych will referee the Champions League final between Juventus and Real Madrid in Cardiff on June 3.
