Ruud van Nistelrooy expects Manchester United to challenge for the Premier League title this season and says they "look impressive".

The Dutchman, who scored 150 goals for the Reds during his time at Old Trafford, was also full of praise for United's new striker Romelu Lukaku.

United are the only team with a 100% record from three matches, and van Nistelrooy said: "They had a great pre-season and continued that at the start of the league.

"Nine points, 10 goals and none against. They look impressive at the moment and can challenge for the big ones."

Lukaku has made a strong start to his career with the Reds, with three goals from three matches, and the Dutchman said of the young Belgian: "He's done great. To score in your first games after you've been transferred for a lot of money, it's great to get that pressure out of the way.

"He's done well. Not only scoring but providing and making his runs. So it looks good for the season."
