Manchester United have scored 22 goals and conceded only five times under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes his side's improved defensive record is as impressive as their form in front of goal.

United have won all eight of their matches since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December, scoring 22 goals and conceding just five times in that period.

They are now only three points off the Champions League places and Solskjaer believes his defenders deserve much of the credit for the club's recent form.

"I love it. It's what you want," said Solskjaer.

"We've had some fantastic results, some great performances and I can see improvement in many aspects since we started, just from Tottenham to Arsenal for example.

"The way we improved the structure, the way our ideas… we get to know each other more and they get to know me and what I want from the team.

"The first few games everyone said it was just about attacking, attacking, attacking but it is the other part I have been very happy with because we haven't conceded many chances."

Solskjaer is hoping to extend his winning start when United face Burnley at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The Clarets are now three points clear of the relegation places after a four-match unbeaten run in the Premier League and Solskjaer believes the Lancashire club have turned a corner under Sean Dyche.

"Definitely, the results they've had and performances they've had says that," he said.

"We know we're up against a team that's going to come here and fight for three points as every single team in the Premier League will, they'll cause you different problems.

"The physicality of Burnley, the front two, we've got to be ready for them but we've turned the corner ourselves.

"We looked really good against Arsenal defensively, I think we defended the box really well and that's going to be important against Burnley as well."
