Scholes's asthma concern

PAUL SCHOLES has admitted he is concerned that his asthma problem may affect his peformances in the humidity of Japan and Korea.

The Manchester United midfielder sometimes uses an inhaler at half-time during Premiership matches, and the climate in the Far East is sure to aggravate his condition.

"The heat and humidity are going to prove difficult with my asthma problems," Scholes revealed.

"But I'll just have to get used to it.

"It is a very tough draw and our aim, at the moment, is simply to make it through to the second round.

"It's going to be difficult but, if we come though it, we could go a long way."

The Salford-born star also admits he will dive to get a penalty, if presented with the opportunity.

"If you get the slightest contact from a defender in the box, then you go down," he stated.

"Diving has been going on for the last couple of years, and has rightly been punished.

"But, if it means winning a penalty for your team, then I'm sure players will still try to do it."

Meanwhile, Scholes's United team-mate Roy Keane has again criticised his colleagues following a season without silverware at Old Trafford.

"At the start of the season, we thought that the manager was leaving and one or two players were slacking off," he stormed.

"Maybe just five percent, but that was enough in the top games.

"There are only one or two players who can say they have done really well - Ruud van Nistelrooy and David Beckham.

"The rest of us, myself included, did not do well enough."
