Hornets land United keeper

Watford have tied up a season-long deal for Manchester United's recent signing Ben Foster.

The goalkeeper joined The Red Devils in a £1 million plus deal from Stoke City earlier this month, despite having not made his debut at The Britannia Stadium.

He impressed United boss Sir Alex Ferguson while on loan at Wrexham last season and signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford.

Ferguson had planned to send Foster out on loan this term to gain further experience and a clutch of clubs were interested.

The Hornets had been favourites to secure the keeper's signature and a season-long arrangement has now been struck.

Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd has been buoyed by the signing and is confident Foster will be a success at Vicarage Road.

"I'm delighted that Ben's joining us on a season-long loan," Boothroyd told the club's official website.

"There was lots of competition from other clubs for Ben but we've managed to secure his services and we're delighted to add him to the squad."
