No charges for Ronaldo

Police have dropped their investigation into allegations of rape against Cristiano Ronaldo.

Police have dropped their investigation into allegations of rape against Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has ruled there is insufficient evidence to push ahead with a prosecution and the player will not now face criminal charges.

"The Metropolitan Police Service submitted a file to the CPS in November following allegations of a serious sexual assault at a central London hotel on October 2," explained a Scotland Yard spokesman.

"We have been informed today by the CPS that there is insufficient evidence to charge.

"As such, the two men arrested during the course of this investigation will face no further action by police in connection with this matter."

The Portugal international was arrested in mid-October on suspicion of rape and had been released on bail.

The alleged incident took place after The Red Devils' 3-2 win at Fulham on October 1, although one of the women later withdrew her allegation.

Ronaldo has played on through the investigation and signed a new contract at Old Trafford last week, keeping him at United until 2010.
