Dutch coach confirms no bid for PSV star
Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has rubbished suggestions the club are lining up a deal for PSV Eindhoven star Kevin Strootman.
The 22-year-old midfielder is one of the stars of the Eredivisie, and has been likened to former United star Roy Keane.
Recent speculation in Holland has suggested that United were considering a bid in excess of £15million.
However, Meulensteen insists that United are not about to make a bid for Strootman, although reiterated that they are following Christian Eriksen.
"The name Strootman has internally never been discussed," he told
Voetbal International.
"We follow every young player with potential. The same is true for example with Christian [Eriksen].
"I don't have a very clear picture of Strootman as a player. In England, some media call him 'the new Roy Keane' but that seems like nonsense to me."
Balotelli
Meulensteen also took a dig at neighbours Manchester City, insisting they would never sign a rider like Mario Balotelli.
"We will never buy a guy like Mario Balotelli," said Meulensteen. "Players like that only deliver frustration.
"At Manchester United everybody is used to the pressure for playing about the title. For the first in long time City is now in a position that they can become champions.
"That's what's breaking them now. I've always thought that City wouldn't hold the race untill the end.
"Their squad is out of balance, they've got to many individuals who are playing for themselves. Against Sunderland you could see that they don't have teamspirit.
"The fight on the pitch like they had you would not see at Manchester United."
