Manchester United have not made an approach to Tottenham for striker Harry Kane, according to Sky sources.
Widespread newspaper reports on Sunday indicated United have contacted Spurs with a view to negotiating a deal for the England forward, but Sky sources have advised that is not the case.
Sky Sports News HQ reporter James Cooper learned last month that Kane was on United’s list of targets but said no negotiations had taken place.
"It is a search for a striker that now includes Harry Kane and that is interesting," said Cooper.
"He is on the list of possible deals that Manchester United might be tempted into doing this summer.
"What Manchester United are doing is looking at all their options. There certainly has been no bid at the moment between Old Trafford and White Hart Lane and no real negotiations at all.
"But what has shifted is that Manchester United have interest in the player. He is under consideration by Louis van Gaal."
Louis van Gaal is certainly in the market for a new striker after Radamel Falcao joined Chelsea on a season-long loan following a disappointing season at Old Trafford.
Fellow Dutchman Robin van Persie’s future at the club looks to be in serious doubt after Sky Bet suspended betting on the 31-year-old joining Turkish club Fenerbahce.
Javier Hernandez is set to return to United following a year on loan at Real Madrid but he now faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking his collarbone in a friendly match between Mexico and Honduras.
Unless another striker is signed, Van Gaal could begin the season with just captain Wayne Rooney and unproven teenager James Wilson as his only striking options. United start their Premier League campaign against Tottenham on August 8.
