Real Madrid will try to sign Eden Hazard in January and his comments that it's "his dream to play for" the club are part of a strategy to soften Chelsea in anticipation of a bid. Hazard's scoring form for Chelsea has coincided with Madrid's drought in front of goal and president Florentino Perez is keen to add some firepower to the squad. Hazard is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2020 and was recommended by Zinedine Zidane as a signing several times when he was coach. (AS)
Florentino Perez wanted to sack Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui in the wake of their 1-0 loss to Alaves but was talked down by other board members. Lopetegui's position is understood to be safe until the Clasico against Barcelona on October 28 but a run of four winless and scoreless matches has left him in a precarious position. Perez has flown to Chicago over the international break for a "personal matter" and is yet to comment on the situation. (Cadena Ser/Mundo Deportivo)
Lyon defender Ferland Mendy is Barcelona's first-choice to provide competition to regular left-back Jordi Alba. Ernesto Valverde wants to add another full-back to his squad, Eric Abidal is a huge admirer of the 23-year-old and Barca scouts have attended several Lyon matches in the last month. Barca have a strong relationship with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas and Abidal is an ex-Les Gones player which could help ease negotiations. (Mundo Deportivo)
Edinson Cavani is becoming frustrated with life at Paris Saint-Germain and left the Parc des Princes on Sunday on his own, ahead of his team-mates, and didn't take part in the post-match lap of honour. Cavani was substituted against Lyon after just 40 minutes, due to Presnel Kimpembe's red card, and is said to feel marginalised by the star status afforded to Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The Uruguayan, who was linked with Real Madrid over the summer, believes his strike partners fail to do their fair share of defensive work as a result. (L'Equipe)
Angel Di Maria wants to play in Italy and agent Jorge Mendes has made his availability known to Juventus. The Paris Saint-Germain winger's contract expires in June and, at 31, he has declared he would like to sample Serie A having played in Portugal, Spain, England and France. However, due to his age and wage demands of €10m (£8.77m), Juve are not overly keen on signing the Argentina international. (Calciomercato)
Mauro Icardi's contract situation at Inter remains uncertain with neither side climbing down over their demands. Icardi, who still has three years to run on his present deal which is worth €4.5m (£3.95m) a year, is demanding €8m (£7.20m) plus bonuses to renew but Inter are only prepared to offer €6.5m (£5.70m) plus bonuses. Inter are keen to get the deal done, however, as they want to remove or significantly raise his €110m (£96.56m) release clause. (Calciomercato)
Former Italy coach Giampiero Ventura could be set for a return to management with Chievo. Serie A's bottom side are expected to dismiss Lorenzo D'Anna this week and the club's board and deciding between Ventura, who was sacked in June after failing to take the Azzurri to the World Cup, and fellow Italian Beppe Iachini who was last with Sassuolo. Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey will play international football for Jamaica. There was some conjecture over who the 21-year-old would opt to play for as he has English grandparents plus he could become eligible for Belgium or Germany through residency laws, but Bailey has been named in the Jamaica squad for their forthcoming match against Bonaire in the CONCACAF Nations League.
