Gonzalo Higuain received a warm Stamford Bridge welcome on Thursday

Gonzalo Higuain was welcomed to Chelsea with a display at Stamford Bridge prior to the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham on Thursday.

The 31-year-old Argentine striker joined Chelsea on loan from Juventus for the remainder of the season on Wednesday and the Blues have the option to extend the loan deal for another season or buy him outright for £31m in the summer.

Higuain's move to London was not completed in time for him to feature against Spurs on Thursday night as Maurizio Sarri opted for a front three of Pedro, Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard.

However, he received a warm Stamford Bridge welcome prior to kick-off, with a standing ovation from Chelsea fans as Higuain entered the pitch and he was also handed a microphone to give a short message.
