Gallas embraces versatility

William Gallas says he now feels comfortable with playing a number of roles at Chelsea.

William Gallas has declared he finally feels comfortable with playing in a number of positions for Premiership champions Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho's tendency to field Gallas in the full-back slots, rather than his preferred central role, has long been a bone of contention for the French international.

His apparent unease at his role at Stamford Bridge led to renewed speculation over his future in London - with Serie A pacesetters Juventus conceding they were an admirer of the 28-year-old during the January transfer window.

However the former Marseille man says he has now come to terms with the fact that his versatility is a blessing rather than a curse, and also described his delight at scoring the opener against Liverpool on Sunday in a 2-0 win for Chelsea.

"When I saw the ball into the net I went wild with joy," Gallas told L'Equipe.

"My friends even told me they had never seen me in such a state.

"At the moment I have so much fun, I get huge joy on the pitch wherever the coach plays me, even on the right or the left.

"In November I shout, but now it is over, now I try to be positive.

"My big quality is to be able to play anywhere in defence, so let's go for versatility.

"Both in the Chelsea or France team I am probably alone at being able to play anywhere in defence, and my coaches also appreciate me for that.

"So now I am living wonderful moments, I made the decision to appreciate them."
