Chelsea boss also offers support to misfiring striker Torres
Andre Villas-Boas has urged Chelsea fans to throw their 'full support' behind the team after again offering his backing to misfiring striker Fernando Torres.
Chelsea suffered a third home defeat in four games in all competitions on Tuesday evening after losing 2-0 to Liverpool in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.
The Blues produced a lacklustre display in front of their own fans and Villas-Boas conceded that Stamford Bridge has become an 'anxious' place.
"Away from home we've been more solid statistically and as a team," said Villas-Boas. "At home we just haven't been good enough.
Atmosphere
"We need to get our fans behind us and get the emotion right. You can feel Stamford Bridge has become anxious.
"We therefore need support. We need atmosphere to get us past this period.
"We have two big games at home where we need our fans behind us and I'm sure they'll do exactly that."
Torres, meanwhile, again struggled against his former club as the Spain international continues to toil in trying to justify his £50million price tag.
After showing signs of recapturing his best form in September, Torres has only scored in one game since he was sent off against Swansea City, but retains the support of his manager.
Villas-Boas added: "It will come with confidence and time. We believe in him and will continue to pursue his individual form.
"Our task as technical staff is to get the best out of players and if we don't do that then we have failed.
"It takes time and Fernando faces a tough time. He must compete because at the moment Didier Drogba is showing good signs."
