Jamie Carragher says Liverpool should not rush to spend in January, but predicts they will recruit due to defensive injuries.
Liverpool beat Stoke 1-0 in their Capital One Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday, but the victory came at a cost as Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure all suffered injuries, while Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez are also out.
But Carragher, speaking ahead of a Liverpool Legends match in Sydney, says Klopp should only buy if the player is right.
"I think there will be people coming in because of the injuries the club have at the moment," he said.
"The squad is not deep enough. But I don't think as a manager and a club you want to buy someone now in a panic and maybe regret it for next season.
"If he can get the right player that he wants now, get him, if not, bide your time and wait for the summer."
Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Carragher insists Klopp has done "very well" during his time in charge at Anfield and says ending the season with a trophy would be a fantastic start to the German's tenure.
Liverpool's second leg against Stoke will be played on January 26 at Anfield, with the winners facing either Manchester City or Everton, who play their first leg on Wednesday evening.
"I think he's done very well. There have been some disappointing results which is to be expected because the reason you change the manager is because the squad before and the results aren't going too well," he added.
"It's not his squad, it's not the best squad, obviously that's why the manager was changed. But he's had some outstanding results, and getting the result at Stoke puts Liverpool in a great position to get to a cup final,
"If he can win a trophy in his first season it is a fantastic start because that was always thrown at Brendan Rodgers, that he hadn't won a trophy in his three years, although we got very close with the Premier League."
