Liverpool's new record signing Virgil van Dijk visited Anfield ahead of Saturday's game against Leicester

Virgil van Dijk was given a guided tour around Anfield ahead of Liverpool's game against Leicester on Saturday, as he prepares to join his new club from Southampton.

The Dutchman is set to become the most expensive defender in history when he joins the Reds in a £75m deal on the opening day of the January transfer window.

Liverpool had hoped to sign the Netherlands international in the summer but were forced to abandon their attempts and issue a public apology to the Saints over an improper approach for Van Dijk.

However, the 26-year-old has now agreed a deal to join Liverpool on January 1 for £75m - surpassing the previous record fee for a defender, £52m, which Manchester City paid to sign Benjamin Mendy from Monaco.

Van Dijk visited Anfield on Saturday to watch Liverpool take on Leicester in the Premier League and the former Celtic defender was given a guided tour around the historic ground ahead of the game.
