Gini Wjnaldum waiting to see if chasing Manchester City suits Liverpool

Gini Wijnaldum

Gini Wijnaldum admits he is unsure whether chasing Manchester City for the Premier League title will suit Liverpool better than leading the pack.

The Reds dropped off the top of the table for the first time since December with a goalless draw at Merseyside rivals Everton - their fourth draw in the last six Premier League games.

Wijnaldum suggested Liverpool will have to win all their remaining nine matches, which includes two of the top six in Tottenham and Chelsea, to win a first league title in 29 years, with City to face Spurs and Manchester United in their run-in.

The Dutchman told Sky Sports News "It's a difficult one to swallow because everyone wanted to be top of the table. But I don't want to say that it's a setback.

"It's normal that we are disappointed but that's the situation and we have to deal with it. We are going to train hard and make sure we win the rest of the games. We have to perform and try to win every game because City will do the same.

"I don't know (whether we prefer to chase them). We have to see if it suits us better. It's always difficult to say. I think they are used to the pressure. For us it's new. We just have to make sure that in the last nine games we give our all, and we'll see what happens."

Liverpool host Burnley next at Anfield before a Champions League last-16 second leg trip to Bayern Munich next week, with the tie delicately poised at 0-0 on aggregate.
