Vignal in Bastia link

GREGORY VIGNAL could be loaned to French First Division club Bastia with his chances at Liverpool somewhat restricted.

The talented left back, 21, has found it hard to break into The Reds team this season, making cameo appearances, and manager Gerard Houllier may choose to loan out the youngster so he can garner first team experience.

Team-mate Djimi Traore was loaned to Lens last season and it seemed to do his confidence some good with the Frenchman starting to show some of his potential.

Vignal, who signed from home-town club Montpellier, made his Reds debut back in January 2000 and is highly-regarded within the Anfield corridors.

Lens are also believed to be interested in taking the Frenchman on loan.

Meanwhile, Bastia are on the brink of signing Montpellier defender Franck Silvestre on a six-month contract.

Montpellier are looking to slash the wage bill and are willing to let the 35-year-old centre half leave.
