Nathaniel Clyne will be a great buy for Liverpool, says Jamie Carragher, who told the full-back to move to Anfield.
According to Sky sources, Southampton have accepted the Reds’ offer of £12.5m for the full-back after having an initial £10m bid rejected.
If he joins, Clyne will be Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer, with the club sealing a £21.3m deal with Hoffenheim for Roberto Firmino earlier this week.
Last season Brendan Rodgers’ men struggled to match their title charge from the 2013/14 season, finishing sixth in the Premier League and missing out on a Champions League spot.
“I saw Nathaniel Clyne at St Mary's after a game last season and told him to sign for LFC – he took my advice!"
But Sky Sports pundit Carragher took to KICCA to say Clyne would be a positive step forward, and added that he played his part in persuading the 24-year-old to consider Anfield.
He posted: “I saw Nathaniel Clyne at St Mary's after a game last season and told him to sign for LFC – he took my advice!
“I think it's another good signing for the club to go along with the other business already done.
“The early deals were a couple of squad players and also James Milner, who are all an improvement on what's currently in the squad.”
Firmino's signing drew praise from Peter Taylor, who told Sky Sports Liverpool’s approach of signing players early in the summer will pay dividends.
Carragher echoed those sentiments, hailing the club’s attitude in trying to build a stronger team, but he also said the club needs more firepower up front.
“The last week has seen the signings of Clyne and Firmino, which will improve the team more than the squad, and that's what costs the big money,” he added.
“Credit to the club for getting these deals done early as every club wants to do that but few do. Another striker still needed though!”
