Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, Sky Sports News understands.

The deal is expected to be a loan with an option to make it permanent.

Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde said the deal is "not official yet", but that "it was something that all parties wanted and hope it goes well".

Unai Emery was asked after Arsenal 2-1 victory over Cardiff whether he expects to have new players available for Sunday's trip to Manchester City, he replied: "Maybe.

"If we can sign one player to come and help us that is good for us."

Reports in Spain claim Barcelona will extend Suarez's contract until 2021 to protect their asset. Suarez has entered the final 18 months of his current deal.
