Pires sorry for logo gaffe
Robert Pires has apologised to the French FA for wearing a rival logo.
Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has apologised to one of France's team sponsors for wearing a rival logo.Pires made his apologies to the French Football Federation after appearing on a television show last month wearing a sweater made by Puma when he was on national duty with Les Bleus.
France's kit and apparel are supplied by Adidas and the country's FA were upset that Pires wore another company's logo instead and asked the former Metz and Marseille player to explain his actions at a hearing in Paris on Monday.
Pires duly apologised for wearing the Puma top, but refused to extend that apology to France boss Raymond Domenech, whom he severely criticised last month.
"I told them I was sorry and I apologised," said Pires. "I can understand they (Adidas) were upset and I won't do it again.
"I came here to review the sponsor's problem and nothing else. It was not the time or the place to review other matters."
The 31-year-old was left of the France squad for this week's friendly with Poland in Paris after publicly criticising Domenech in an interview in October.
Domenech stated that Pires's omission was for 'sporting reasons' and that it was not based on the criticism he received from the midfielder.
The French Football Federation will decide later this week whether to punish Pires for the sponsorship incident.
