Judge Everton at end of the season, says Roberto Martinez

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has reiterated that the club's season should only be assessed once it has come to an end.

Martinez has consistently faced, and rejected, accusations his side have underachieved this season but last week's 3-2 home defeat by West Ham - after leading 2-0 - has added further validity to such criticism.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea at Goodison Park, Martinez, whose side sit 12th in the table with 10 matches remaining, said: "Judge us at the end of the season.

"I think when you want to assess what you have done in a season, you have to wait until the end of it," he said.

"At that point, you can look into very specific details - how you have been on the ball, your attacking work, what you have done defensively, what you have done away from home, what you have done at home."

Everton have lost three of their last four home matches but Martinez believes his side will rise to the occasion on Saturday with new investor Farhad Moshiri watching from the stands.

"The squad has always reacted bravely and positively," said the Spaniard. "We have already been to the semi-finals of the League Cup, which I think gives us the inspiration to be able to perform well at this stage of the competition."

Everton have already recorded a home victory against a Chelsea side who struggled early on in the campaign under Jose Mourinho.

However, interim manager Guus Hiddink, who led Chelsea to an FA Cup final triumph over Everton in 2009, has helped revive the club's fortunes, leading them on an 11-game unbeaten run which ended when PSG dumped them out the Champions League on Wednesday.

"It depends how you want to look at it, if you are being pessimistic, you'll say Chelsea will now be focusing on the FA Cup," said Martinez. "If you are being optimistic, you'll say maybe they won't have a feel-good factor after Wednesday's result.

"The reality is they are an outstanding team and we all know what they have achieved since Guus Hiddink has come back. I think we are both looking forward to this footballing occasion and we know it's a very important opportunity for both clubs."
