Roberto Martinez understands why Everton's fans are unhappy with their recent form

Roberto Martinez says he will fight to turn around Everton supporters' unrest between now and the summer.

Some fans held up banners calling for Martinez to go as Everton were held at Watford on Saturday, while the manager was pictured in conversation with a supporter at an U21 game on Monday.

Everton are 14th in the Premier League and will fall another place if they are beaten at Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

And ahead of that game Martinez said: "I can understand the frustration. We all share an incredible amount of passion. I've no problems with the passion the fans have towards the team, that's the real strength we have.

"I accept the only thing that matters is to make sure we finish season really, really strong. Everything is to fight for in the league campaign."

Asked about the incident on Monday evening, he said: "It wasn't a confrontation. I want to know what the fans feel and respect a fan that has a genuine interest in the club and the passion every fan has is something we share.

"We are disappointed as they are. We just need to be close together. We'll never look away from a fan's opinion. It's very important to know how the fans feel.

"As a manager you put pressure on yourself, whether there's scrutiny outside or not, it's always been the same. I will never stop doing that. Sometimes there's more momentum or scrutiny from outside and that's something you cannot control."

Everton still have 21 points to play for in the league and go to Wembley later this month for an FA Cup semi-final.

Captain Phil Jagielka is a doubt for that game and will definitely miss out against Palace and Southampton on Saturday after injuring a hamstring at Watford.

"We'll assess on a daily basis, " Martinez said. "It would be dangerous to give a date when he comes back.

"It's too early to say if Jags is a doubt for the semi-final. Phil is always a quick healer. We'll see how treatment affects him. We'll have better idea on Monday."

Tom Cleverley, meanwhile, could miss the Palace game with a minor injury.
