Graeme Sharp and Robert Elstone pay tribute for Everton great Alex Young

Tributes are paid to Alex Young who made 273 appearances for Everton and won the FA Cup.

Everton favourite Graeme Sharp has paid tribute to Alex Young, the Goodison Park great who died on Monday at the age of 80.

The Scotland international striker, who was nicknamed 'The Golden Vision', died peacefully in hospital on Monday morning.

Young won league titles on both sides of the border, helping Hearts to two Scottish championships in three years before joining Everton in November 1960.

He would go on to win the Division One crown with the Toffees three years later and was also an FA Cup winner in 1966.

Sharp, who spent more than a decade with Everton, told Sky Sports News HQ: "The club is steeped in history and we try to encourage the younger players to learn what it means to play for Everton.

"Alex was a very humble man and it was great to talk to him. He held Everton very close to his heart and the Evertonians who saw him knew what a fantastic player he was."

His sentiments were echoed by the club's chief executive Robert Elstone, who added: "It was a sad day but it also gives us a chance to remember and pay tribute to a true Everton legend.
