DC United's online gear store posted Wayne Rooney's name on their website before removing it on Monday.

The 32-year-old is set top make a £12m switch from Everton to the USA, Sky Sports News understands, but the deal has not been announced by either club.

MLSStore.com appeared to do so, however, in a menu on the left-hand side of their DC United page where customers can custom names and numbers on the back of the club's merchandise.

DC United boss Ben Olsen confirmed interest in Rooney earlier this month but insisted the deal to take him to MLS was not yet done.

Everton are looking for a new manager, with ex-Watford boss Marco Silva their number one target, after sacking Sam Allardyce and his staff last week.

Widespread reports in UK national newspapers claim the Toffees still want Rooney to make the move to the USA despite a change in technical staff.
