Yannick Bolasie has exercised an option in his loan deal with Aston Villa to return to Everton.
Sky Sports News understands Everton had an option to recall the winger but had anticipated he would remain at Villa Park until the end of the season.
Bolasie made 21 Villa appearances, scoring two goals after joining the club on loan in August 2018.
Aston Villa said in a statement: "The club would like to thank Yannick for his contribution to Aston Villa during his loan spell and wish him all the best in his future career."
Bolasie was farmed out to the SkyBet Championship club by new manager Marco Silva after playing just 17 games in the previous campaign having come back from a year out with a serious knee injury.
The 29-year-old has only managed 32 appearances for Everton since a £30m move from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016.
