BLACK CATS SIGN TRIO

SUNDERLAND manager Peter Reid has, as expected, revealed the signings of Don Hutchison and Tom Peeters, and has also secured the services of Austrian goalkeeper Jurgen Macho.

Hutchison, 29, has signed a four-year deal with the club after finalising a £2.5 million move from Everton on Friday morning after passing a medical on Thursday night.

Peeters, 21, has also signed a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light after completing his £250,000 move from Belgian outfit Mechelen.

Austrian Under-21 international goalkeeper Macho has joined on a Bosman deal from FC Vienna after seeing out his contract with the club, and has agreed a three-year deal with Sunderland.

Hutchison, who had been expected to leave Goodison Park after failing to agree an extension to his contract with everton, which would have run out next summer, told the official club website: "I'm delighted to be joining Sunderland.

"They are a team which has grown significantly in the last few years and one which I believe has the potential to become an even better side.  You have to be excited.

"There are a lot of quality players in the squad and, with the Premiership's top scorer in Kevin Phillips, I'll be looking to create chances and bring more goals.

"My ultimate ambition is to win some trophies for Sunderland and take the club into Europe.  I've known Peter Reid for a while, I think he's a great manager and I'm looking forward to working with him."

Reid said: "I've signed a quality player who really wants to play for Sunderland and wear a red and white shirt, and that's a priority for me as a manager.  Don is a Scottish international and one who I believe is possibly the best player in the Scottish side.

"Tom was awarded Young Player of the Year in Belgium and there are some good footballers over there.  I think he has the potential to become a very, very good player and one who I believe will certainly make the Belgian international team."

He added that he expects Macho to press Thomas Sorensen and Andy Marriott, saying: "We already have two top quality keepers but I believe that Jurgen has ability to push for a first team place."
