Zenit question Bolton finances

Dick Advocaat has questioned Bolton's motives for not signing Pavel Mares.

Dick Advocaat has questioned Bolton's financial situation after they pulled out of a move for Zenit St Petersburg's Pavel Mares.

Bolton pulled out of the deal on transfer deadline day, after agreeing terms with both player and club.

Now Zenit's Dutch coach feels Nicolas Anelka's multi-million pound switch to The Reebok could have been the reason for Mares's move being cancelled.

"We are still waiting for the results of Mares's medical in Bolton, but we don't have information why the transfer was cancelled," he said.

"Mares works very well in training and I'm happy with his fitness.

"It's possible that Bolton has other reasons for withdrawing their bid. Maybe they have financial troubles after Anelka's move."

Mares's agent Pavel Zika insists the move collapsed due to the player failing a medical.

"Bolton have very high fitness requirements and Pavel did not pass through the fitness test. That is why he remains in Zenit," Zika told CTK.
