Wigan have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi on a season-long loan from Bolton.

Shot-stopper to put pressure on injury-prone Kirkland

Wigan Athletic have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi on a season-long loan from Premier League rivals Bolton Wanderers. The 28-year-old, who made his league debut for Wanderers against the Latics, has been signed because Roberto Martinez wants competition for places in every area of his squad. As revealed by Sky Sports News, DW Stadium boss Martinez is therefore pleased to have captured Al-Habsi, who will put pressure on first-choice, but injury-prone, shot-stopper Chris Kirkland. "We need competition in every department, and Ali will certainly do that," said Martinez. "He has a terrific attitude to the game and after four years in England knows all about the Premier League. "We are delighted to welcome him on board."
