Former Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer says he is interested in replacing Steve Clarke as Reading manager.
The Royals sacked Clarke on Thursday following a poor run of form which saw them slip to ninth in the Sky Bet Championship table after just one win in eight games.
Clarke chose to stay at Reading after accepting an invitation to hold talks with Fulham about their vacant managerial position last month, a move which Sky sources understand contributed to the decision to dismiss the former West Brom boss.
Bowyer was dismissed by Blackburn on November 10 after almost three years at Ewood Park and is keen to get back into the game.
When asked if he would be interested in the Reading vacancy, Bowyer said: "Of course, I'm looking to get back as soon as possible.
"Football and management has been a huge part of my life, all my life."
Bowyer admits he was surprised to see Reading and Clarke part ways but knows from personal experience that the football industry can be a tough one.
"I was surprised to see that had happened," Bowyer said. "But when you consider the number of managers who have lost their jobs this season, it shouldn't be a surprise. Football is a brutal industry.
"But Reading are a very good football club, it has a lot of history and the job would appeal to a lot of people because of its tradition.
"I've already got managerial experience in the Championship, two and a half years, so if the right opportunity comes along you've got to be putting yourself forward.
"I've dusted myself down and tried to do some reflecting on what went well for me personally as a manager.
"Managing is certainly something I want to continue doing."
