Royals boss did not meet with Molineux outfit

Reading manager Brian McDermott has denied holding managerial talks with Wolves prior to signing a new contract. The 50-year-old tactician committed his future to the Royals on Wednesday by penning a deal keeping him at the club until 2015. McDermott was linked as a possible successor with some reports this week stating he travelled to Wolverhampton for talks. However, the Reading boss insists there were no discussions, although he believes they remain a 'fantastic' club.

No talks

"I didn't speak to Wolves," he told Sky Sports News. "Wolves are a fantastic club with real good people running that club. "They've got a really good team. I know Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt really well. "For me it's about the club that I've got here. The fans that we've got, they've been really, really good for me. "It's a good day for me." McDermott is delighted his future has been finalised, stating talks have been on-going for a number of weeks. The Royals tactician has also been in discussions with the club's new owner Anton Zingarevich and he is pleased with their relationship.

"I'm absolutely delighted everything's been sorted out. This has been on-going for the past three or four weeks," he added on his new contract. "I've had good discussions with Anton, our new owner. It's very pleasing. "We had these conversations a while ago. The most important thing for me was to get it sorted. It's been sorted, so we now can concentrate entirely on what we have to do against Middlesbrough on Saturday. "It's important Anton and I we work really closely together because the relationship between the manager and the owner is vital. "On Monday last week he said something to be me that was very, very important and once he'd said that there was only one place for me to be and that was here. That will be something that remains between me and him."
