Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has been eyeing the 20-year-old as he looks to bolster his squad for the promotion push in Division One this season.
McAnuff has been added to the South Coast club's target list after impressing for The Dons in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric had admitted that they will make an enquiry for the right-sided midfield player and Redknapp told The News of his admiration for the youngster.
Redknapp said: "I like McAnuff. He impressed me on Tuesday and gave Matt Taylor a tough time defensively.
"I can also remember him giving Scott Hiley a difficult game last season.
"Every time he has played against us, he has been one of the best players on the pitch.
"Wimbledon have some good players and McAnuff is the best of them."
Meanwhile, Redknapp has been in discussions with fellow Division One side Bradford City over the transfer of journeyman striker Ashley Ward.
The Pompey boss is in talks over a deal where the Division One leaders would pick up half of Ward's £18,000-a-week wages.
Bantams chairman Gordon Gibb revealed that he has been in the later stages of talks for Ward's transfer to Pompey.
Gibb said: "We're prepared to let him leave on a free transfer or a long-term loan deal providing Portsmouth pay half his wages."
Meanwhile, Portsmouth received some encouraging news when it was revealed that Neil Barrett's leg injury was not a fracture.
Barrett twisted his knee in the club's reserve match at Bristol City on Wednesday with fears he had broken his leg.
However, X-rays confirmed there was no break and he will rest his knee before having the injury assessed again by the club physio.
