Ghana defender a summer target for Pompey
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed he is interested in Ghana defender John Mensah.
Mensah has emerged as a possible summer target for Portsmouth as doubts continue to surround the long-term future of Sol Campbell.
Redknapp has watched Rennes ace Mensah in action this season and he is a big admirer of the central defender.
"I like him. I've watched him quite a bit, but I think there are a few other clubs interested in him," Redknapp told
The News.
"I've been watching quite a lot of players for next season.
"He's one of those players to look at.
Short
"Centre-half is a problem. When Noe Pamarot's not fit we haven't really got anyone to back up Sol [Campbell] and Sylvain [Distin]. We're short.
"We started the season with a load of central defenders.
"We had Dejan [Stefanovic], Andy O'Brien and none of them would ever let you down - they would do a good job for you.
"But they weren't playing so we let them go."
