League Two round-up: Leyton Orient lose perfect record at Exeter
Sunday 6 September 2015 00:18, UK
Leyton Orient lost their 100 per cent League One record in spectacular fashion as they were thrashed 4-0 at Exeter City.
The Brisbane Road side remain top of the table after Plymouth – who were second – also lost their game at Stevenage.
But the manner of Orient's defeat in Devon was the main talking point as 33 goals were scored across 10 matches.
Ian Hendon's side fell behind after just five minutes as Tom Nichols scored from the penalty spot and Alex Nicholls made it two before the break.
Another Tom Nichols effort – again from 12 yards after a foul in the box – extended Exeter's lead even further before David Wheeler completed a comprehensive win.
The only positive from the day for the visitors was that they remain at the summit after Stevenage won 2-1 against Plymouth, who drop to third.
Connor Ogilvie and Chris Whelpdale gave Teddy Sheringham's men a cushion before Craig Tanner pulled one back after the break.
Taking Plymouth's place in the runners-up position are Wycombe, who won 2-1 against Hartlepool.
Michael Harriman's brace gave the hosts the points at Adams Park, with Carl Magnay – who was later sent off – netting in reply.
At the bottom end of the standings, Newport's miserable campaign continued as they were comfortably beaten 3-0 at home to York.
James Berrett, Reece Thompson and Michael Gash were all on the scoresheet as they left the Welsh side as the only team still to win.
Terry Butcher's men have just a solitary point from their opening six games while York went home with their second win of the campaign.
Two goals from Derek Asamoah helped Carlisle overcome Barnet 3-2 in an entertaining contest at Brunton Park.
Tom Miller gave the Cumbrians an early lead before Bira Dembele and Michael Gash made it all square at the break after Asamoah netted his first.
The striker added a second to wrap up the points for Carlisle, whose nine games so far this term have included 35 goals for them and their opponents.
Marc Richards opened the scoring with his fifth of the season but a Matt McClure double before the break was enough for the Londoners to break their duck.
Luton, coming off the back of a three-game losing streak, beat Cambridge 3-1 thanks to two second-half goals.
Luke Guttridge scored first for Luton before Leon Legge equalised but Harrison Dunk was sent off and that proved crucial as Luke Wilkinson and Danny Green won the game.
Morecambe came from two goals down to beat Yeovil, who had Shaun Jeffers sent off in the first half.
Harry Cornick and Omar Sowumni gave Paul Sturrock's side a two-goal lead after half an hour but they also had Shaun Jeffers sent off.
Aaron Wildig and Andrew Fleming restored parity after the restart before late goals from Lee Molyneux and Kevin Ellison wrapped up a remarkable 4-2 victory.
Portsmouth and Accrington played out a goalless draw at Fratton Park, while there were goals for Chris Clements and Tom Elliott as Mansfield and AFC Wimbledon drew 1-1.
