Tottenham need to forget Leicester and focus on their remaining Premier League games, according to Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says all his team can do is focus on their own performances as the title race builds towards a climax.

Second-placed Spurs are currently seven places behind leaders Leicester and have to play their fixture later than the Foxes on Sunday, which can be construed as a disadvantage.

The schedule means by the time Tottenham kick-off their tricky game at home to Manchester United in the second part of Super Sunday, Pochettino's men could be 10 points adrift of Claudio Ranieri's side.

But Pochettino says his side simply need to concentrate on racking up the wins if they are to capitalise on any slip-ups from their only realistic rival for the title.

"In football you need to believe," said Pochettino. "It is important for us to be focused and prepare in the best way for our game.

"We cannot change when Leicester play, you never know if it is a disadvantage. We can only do our job and try to get the three points. What happens with Leicester, will happen with Leicester.

"It is important to try and fight. Six games ahead, all can happen in football. We need to be vigilant and focused. If Leicester fail, we need to stay in there.

"Our challenge is to compete and fight for the title in the last game. To have the possibility is the biggest challenge, to arrive at Newcastle (for the final match) with the possibility to win the league."

Spurs do not have a good record at home to United, having not won any of the last 14 meetings at White Hart Lane, drawing six times and losing eight.

"It's been 15 years since we beat them at home, no?" said Pochettino. "Maybe it's a good moment to change the history.

"It was the first game of the season (when Spurs lost the reverse fixture 1-0). We have changed and improved a lot and we are happy with the season since then. I think we have improved a lot but we want to improve more."

Regarding team news for Sunday, Pochettino added: "Erik Lamela trained very well all week and we expect him to be available but Nabil Bentaleb is out.

"Tomorrow we will assess Jan Vertonghen and Clinton N'Jie. They trained well during the week but we have another session and we will see."
