Harry Kane wants to ensure Tottenham put distance between themselves and rivals Arsenal and Manchester United, whether or not his side can catch Chelsea.

The Spurs striker scored twice in Sunday's 3-2 win over Everton to take his tally to 24 for the season in all competitions and help his side put pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea ahead of their game against West Ham on Monday Night Football.

Kane admitted his side were supporting the Hammers as they bid to make up ground on Chelsea, as Antonio Conte's side restored their 10-point advantage over Spurs in second with a 2-1 win at the London Stadium.

Jamie Redknapp says Spurs have to finish above Arsenal this season to exorcise 22 years of PL pain

"We've got to concentrate on ourselves, build a gap on the teams around us and if Chelsea drop points then great and if they don't then we'll be second or third," the 23-year-old said ahead of the Blues' game.

Tottenham were for a long time Leicester City's closest rivals in the title race last term, but crumbled when the pressure mounted and ended up finishing third behind the Foxes and Arsenal.

Kane is determined to show his side can last the distance this time around.

"We were disappointed last year, as we all know," added Kane, who leads the Premier League scoring charts with 19 goals.

"We are in a good position now, trying to catch Chelsea, but it's important we build a gap between the teams around us as well and with Man United and Arsenal dropping points it was important we capitalise."

Kane also had some words of encouragement for fellow forward Vincent Janssen, who replaced him towards the end against Everton but has not started a league game since October.

"He's just got to do what he did against Everton, even though it might have only been three or four minutes at the end," the England international said.

"He held the ball up, won free-kicks and saw the game out for us and that's what he's got to do every time he gets an opportunity. He has to try to impress no matter how many minutes it is.

"I was the same, I tried to do as much as I could in that time. He's important, we are a team, we are a squad, every man is important."
