Tottenham midfielder Luke Amos has been ruled out for the season with a serious knee injury.

The academy prospect has been pushing for a first-team place since impressing in pre-season and came on as an 88nd-minute substitute for Eric Dier in the 2-1 win at Newcastle on the opening day of the Premier League campaign.

Amos signed a new contract with Spurs last month but he ruptured an anterior cruciate knee ligament playing for Spurs U23s against Blackburn last week and now requires surgery.

The 21-year-old has had previous loan spells at Southend and Stevenage and scored two goals in 16 matches last season for the Hertfordshire side.
