Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier says the team have nothing to lose and can beat Ajax and reach the Champions League final

Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier says the squad still believe they can reach the Champions League final - despite a first-leg defeat to Ajax.

The slick Dutch outfit won 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and were particularly impressive in the first half-hour, during which Donny van de Beek scored the game's only goal.

Spurs improved after the break though and Trippier thinks they can go to Amsterdam and summon up a performance similar to the one that ousted Manchester City on an epic night at the Etihad.

"It was a difficult first 20, 25 minutes," Trippier said.

"We just couldn't close them down as we like to, the pressing that we do week in, week out.

"I thought we gradually got into the game and kept on pushing. We gave everything to try and equalise in the second half

"Obviously it is only 1-0 - we go to their place next week and hopefully we can get a performance.

"Sonny (Heung-Min Son) is back for the next leg and we will give everything we have got. We all believe, we have the belief in the squad.

"Next Wednesday, we have nothing to lose. We will try to score as many goals as we can, like we did at Man City - and anything can happen."

Moussa Sissoko had a positive impact after coming off the bench for Spurs on Tuesday and he said: "The second half was better - we tried to play and we had some chances.

"A lot of crosses but we didn't equalise, so we are disappointed to lose the first game - but it is not over.

"One more game to play. It won't be easy but, all together, I am sure we can do it."
