Jol praises Carrick

Tottenham coach Martin Jol has heaped praise on midfielder Michael Carrick.

The Dutchman was impressed the moment he saw the former West Ham man in training and is predicting big things for the 23-year-old.

Carrick was not a favourite under former coach Jacques Santini, but he has been a key player since Jol assumed control of Spurs.

Jol is delighted the club beat off interest from numerous clubs for Carrick's services as he believes he is the complete midfielder.

"The first time I saw him on the training pitch I thought 'He will be an England international'," said Jol.

"Everyone could see it. He was a very good buy. We were lucky to get him.

"He is one of the biggest talents in England. He is a complete midfielder - a skilful player and passer."
