South Africa star closing in on trial with north Londoners

South Africa defender Bongani Khumalo is closing in on a trial at Tottenham after impressing at the World Cup. The 23-year-old centre-back was one of South Africa's star performers at the finals, with his crowning moment coming when he netted the opener in the 2-1 victory over France. The SuperSport United defender, who partnered skipper Aaron Mokoena in the heart of Bafana Bafana's defence, admitted his agent is now close to securing a trial at Spurs. While he insists nothing has been finalised, he will take his chance if it comes along as it would be a dream to ply his trade in the Premier League. Khumalo told Football365.co.za: "They are working on it at the moment, but it hasn't been confirmed as of yet. "It would be a dream. I have always wanted to play in England and obviously in the Premier League and it would be a dream to move to Tottenham - and if it happened it would be up to me to make sure it works." Khumalo added the prospect of playing UEFA Champions League football with Harry Redknapp's side would also be a major draw. "Playing in the Champions League would be another dream," he said. "I think the Champions League is the closest level to the World Cup in terms of quality and the play, so it would be great to make the move." Khumalo is not the first Matsatsanta star to have been linked with the North London outfit - Morgan Gould and Masibuzane Zongo have both attracted interest from White Hart Lane in the past.
